Watchdog head sees 6–10 Russian airlines in danger

MOSCOW, Oct 20 (PRIME) -- There are about six to 10 Russian airlines whose operations raise questions, Viktor Basargin, head of the Federal Service for Transport Oversight, told reporters on Friday.

Airline VIM-Avia is currently in a difficult financial situation, with its payables estimated at around 10 billion rubles. The airline has delayed a large number of flights since mid-summer to September 25, when it said it had no money to continue operations and had to stop charter flights.

“We are holding regular inspections of airlines, but I would not like to name the airlines that violate regulations,” he said, adding that there are some airlines in the risk zone.

“There are companies which we are tracking in a constant monitoring regime, there are about six to 10 of them. We are closely looking at their activity.”
